PU book fair concludes, record 1 lakh books sold in two days

1(04-04-15)Lahore: Pakistan’s largest three-day book fair organized by Punjab University administration concluded here on Saturday at New Campus while according to organizers, more than one hundred thousand books were sold during the first two days.

On the last day, Justice (r) Nazir Ghazi, former Governor Punjab Shahid Hamid, former IG Zulfiqar Cheema, Secretary Lahore High Court Bar Association Ahmed Qayyum with delegation, Chairman Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy Syed Shahbaz Bukhari, senior journalists including Salman Ghani, Taufeeq Butt, Sajjad Mir, Hafeez Ullah Niazi, Rifat Alam, Imdad Hussain Bhatti, MPA Mary Gill, renowned writers and other prominent figures of society also visited the book fair.

Thousands of people from all walks of life, especially a large number of families, thronged PU book fair and purchased books of their interest from bookstalls. During the last hours, the book sellers started to provide more than 50 percent discount on books because of which the sale of books gained an extra-ordinary momentum.

Talking to media, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the PU administration would expand this book fair next time keeping in view response of people. He said that the purpose of PU book fair was to provide all kinds of books under one roof on reduced prices.

Talking to media, senior journalists said that they were very happy to see a huge number of young students and people which proved that people still loved books. They said that the nations who made books friend always progressed. They said that the government must organize such book fairs under its own supervision so that books could be provided to the people on discounted rates and reading habits could be promoted.

The participants also lauded security and sanitation arrangements. They congratulated Dr Mujahid Kamran on successfully organizing book fair.
