Jammers to be installed in 14 jails of the province:IG Prisons Farooq Nazir

Lahore: A memorandum of understanding was signed between National Radio Telecommunication Corporation and Punjab government for installing jammers in 14 jails.

IG Prisons Farooq Nazir and Director of the Corporation signed the MoU. Provincial Minister for Prisons Chaudhary Abdul Waheed Arain, Special Secretary Home Dr. Shoaib and Additional Secretary Home Aamir Jan were also present on the occasion.

Later, addressing the press conference, Provincial Minister and IG Prisons said that jammers will be installed in 14 jails of the province which will help eliminate use of illegal mobiles in jails. Provincial Minister said that the work on installing jammers in Rawalpindi, DG Khan, Central Jail Lahore, Camp Jail, Faisalabad Central Jail, Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Kasur, Multan and District Jail Faisalabad will be completed within three months. He said that internet WIFI will also be jammed through these jammers whereas Home Department and office of IG Prisons will monitor these jammers.

Provincial Minister said that the Corporation has already installed jammer in Adiyala Jail which is working successfully. He said that the work of installing PCOs in jails will be completed within three months through which prisoners will be able to talk on phone with their relatives.
