PC-I for the computerization of Prosecution Department has been approved: Rana Maqbool

Prosecution ConferenceLahore: Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab and Former IG Police Rana Maqbool Ahmad has said that PC-I for the computerization of Prosecution Department has been approved. He said that Prosecutors will be provided with Laptops all over Punjab for smooth working. He said that the process of accountability and scrutiny will improve through this step. He said that the Law provides a prosecutor an authority to dismiss a case if it is not trial worthy or false. Punjab Government has established a state of the art Forensic Science Laboratory with the cost of 3 Billion rupees to get flawless evidences, he added.

He was addressing a conference on “Significance of Independent Prosecution Service” here today. The seminar was co-arranged by Punjab Prosecution Service, Center for Research and Security Studies and GIZ. Secretary Prosecution Nadeem Irshad Kiani, Senior Journalist Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, District and Session Judge Hamid Shah, Senior columnist Mian Saif ur Rahman, Prof. Humayon Ehsan, Imtiaz Gul, Prosecutor General Punjab Asjad Javed, Salman Abid, Prosecutors and students participated in the conference.

Special Assistant to CM Punjab, in his address, said that it is our mission to rebuild peoples trust on public prosecutors. He said that cooperation between police and prosecutors will help in bringing the criminals to their logical end. Rana Maqbool said that department is establishing a Prosecution Help Line for increasing the coordination with masses. He said that Prosecution is a mission and prosecutors are not there just to convict the criminal but they have to rescue the innocent as well.

Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, in his address, said that after judicial movement a new movement is required for independence of Police and Prosecution. He said that only departments free from all sort of pressures can perform up to the mark. Secretary Prosecution Nadeem Irshad Kiani said that the prosecutor should be the in-charge of investigation. He said that Prosecutors are instructed to check the trial worthiness of cases at the initial stages. District and session judge Hamid Shah said that many criminals escape punishment due to lack of concrete evidence and flawed investigation. Humayon Ehsan said that it is need of the hour to strengthen the Iron Fist of Prosecution. Imtiaz Gul said that Rule of Law is the basis of a democratic society. The speakers stressed the need for an independent prosecution service for dispensation of justice so that no criminal goes scot-free and no innocent is punished.
