Sargodha police tortured a constable’s young son to death

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday took notice on an application submitted with its Complaint Cell that police allegedly tortured a constable’s young son to death. District & Sessions Judge, Sargodha has been directed to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by the local police along with his own comments.

According to details, a police constable serving Police Department for 20 years, Sher Ahmad Chishti, resident of Aziz Park Sillanwali, submitted the application that his 21-year-old son Fahim Ahmad was going to market when an ASI Muhammad Iqbal and Constables Umar Hayat, Zafar Ullah and Munawar Ahmad stopped him and took him to Sillanwali Police Station. They along with a private man Nasir (personal gunman of SHO) under the supervision of SHO Riaz Ahmad tortured Fahim Ahmad severely. When he fell unconscious they shifted him to an unknown place where he was further maltreated. The applicant several times visited the police station to prove his son’s innocence but in vain. Even he was not allowed to see his son for a week.

On the tenth day of the abduction of his son, a police constable came to him and told that DSP Sillanwali was calling him. When he reached there, the said DSP took him to District Headquarters Hospital Sargodha where his son was in a critical condition. Doctor and police got his signatures on a plan paper for treating his son as kidneys had failed due to violence. He succumbed to his injuries during dialysis. Sher Ahmad further submitted that he gave an application to Police for registration of case against six nominated accused including said SHO and his private gunman Nasir. After burial, when he got copy of FIR, to his surprise SHO had tampered with his application and removed his and his gunman’s names from the FIR and also kept the investigation of the case with him. Moreover, on the day of Fahim Ahmad ‘s death, police lodged a case against the deceased and entered arrest.

LHC Complaint Cell took notice on the application on administrative side and directed the concerned D&SJ to look into the matter and submit report in a week.
