Health Officers meeting review latest dengue situation

Khawaja Salman Rafique (2)Lahore: A meeting of technical advisory committee on dengue was held here today under the chairmanship of Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafique at the committee room of DG Health.

Special Secretary Health Babar Hayat Tarar, Commissioner Lahore Rashid Mahmood Langrial, DCO Lahore Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, Dean Institute of Public Health Prof. Muaz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Health (Technical) Dr. Anwar Janjua, Director General Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Chief Entomologist Prof. Waseem Akram, Medical Superintendents of Mayo Hospital, Services Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, as well as focal persons on dengue were present.

The meeting reviewed in detail the latest dengue situation and discussed the strategy adopted for eradication of this menace. Later, talking to media, Kh. Salman Rafique said that temperature is still favourable for the breeding of dengue mosquito therefore special attention is being paid to improving vector surveillance and indoor surveillance in the light of the recommendations of the experts. He said that instructions have been issued to intensify targeted fogging and indoor spray in such union councils which have a high rate of dengue patients.

In reply to a question, Kh. Salman Rafique said that experts are laying greatest emphasis on destroying dengue larva through mechanical method so as to protect environment and human health however, targeted spray and fogging is being conducted in the affected areas. He said that the people will have to change their habits and lifestyle to get rid of dengue.

Kh. Salman Rafique said that anti-polio campaign is also being started from November 18 but it will not affect anti- dengue activities as the Health Department has acquired the services of additional staff from Education, Social Welfare and other institutions as well as volunteers. He said that all hospitals are being monitored and attendance of senior doctors as well as examination of dengue patients is being ensured. He as well as public representatives and government officers are paying regular visits to hospitals to ensure that the best medical facilities are available to under treatment dengue patients. He said that according to experts, the dengue situation will considerably improve during the next two weeks.
