People repose faith in the Court System:CJ LHC Umar Ata Bandial

Lahore: Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Lahore, Mr. Justice , has conveyed to the District Judiciary that inspite of vigorous application and implementation of National Judicial Policy 2009, the number of cases in District Courts is continuously increasing. Hon’ble Chief Justice has termed this factor a healthy sign that people in the province repose faith and trust in the Court System. Therefore, it was need of the hour to clear the backlog of old cases on a priority basis.

In a letter written by Member Inspection Team, Mr. Abdul Sattar, all the District and Sessions Judges in the Punjab, have been emphasized to immediately adopt the following measures within a week at all the District Courts in the province. All the District & Sessions Judges and Senior Civil Judges in the Punjab are directed to provide to all courts working under their control Red Colour File covers for the number of Oldest Category cases pending in each Court. Keeping in view economic constraints, these Files Covers should be made of simple and cheap hard papers, which may be purchased from the Stationary Items heads budget. All the Courts henceforth shall keep the files of oldest category in the Red Colour file, which should be distinguishable from other category of cases and should be given preference for disposal over all other cases. All the Courts seized of Oldest Category case are directed to decide these cases by taking these on fast track and hearing on day to day basis. The Courts may also keep the cases of some other categories such as Senior Citizens i.e. person above the age of 65 years, widows, juveniles, already directed to be treated on priority in Red File covers in order to facilitate deserving categories of litigants.
