Process of surprise raids would be continue:Iqbal Channer

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Prisons, Malik Iqbal Channar has said that the process of surprise raids headed by the senior officials of Prisons Department has been started so that the problems of the masses could be resolved. He said that the process of secret monitoring of the jail officials is also continuing. The jail officials offered their services in a very polite manner to the visitors. Strict action was taken against those found involved in corruption and negligence and three Assistant Superintendents, one head ward and four warders have been suspended and inquiry initiated.

The Minister said that on the direction of Punjab Chief Minister, IG Prisons has taken various steps for maintaining discipline and elimination of corruption. The process of surprise visits to the important and sensitive jails headed by senior officers of the prisons is the top priority in order to eliminate use of drugs and mobile phones. He said that inspection teams headed by DIGs Jails of Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi Regions, DIGs Inspection and Headquarters have been constituted to search the jails. These teams have raided important jails of the province and recovered 1925 mobile phones whereas disciplinary action has been taken against the concerned officials and officers. Uptil now 51 officers and officials have been awarded punishment on their irresponsible attitude whereas inquiries of 36 officers and officials are pending with Home Department and IG Prisons.
