Supreme Court annuls Contempt of Court Law

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared Contempt of Court Law, against the spirit of the Constitution
While admitting the petitions filed against Contempt of Court Law,SC says the law contradicts the Constitution.

In response to the petitions filed against the Contempt of Court Law, the Supreme Court of Pakistan Friday said certain sections of the law were incompatible with the injunctions of the Constitution.

The Contempt of Court Law 2012 stands annulled in the light of this verdict. The verdict declares the law illegal and unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court said that the new law aimed at curtailing the powers of the judiciary.

Earlier, during the hearing the Attorney General said that Supreme Court should cooperate with the government for smooth running of the political system, to which the CJP said it was not the job of the Supreme Court.

The law will stand annulled from July 12, the day it was promulgated.
Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry wrote the verdict with he own hands.
