Syed Raza Ali Gillani inaugurates digital library at LCWU

Lahore : A state of the art digital library at Lahore College for Women University inaugurated in Post Graduate Block here on Tuesday.

Minister for higher education Punjab Syed Raza Ali Gillani cut the ribbon along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Uzma Qureshi and visited different parts of the library. The minister also inaugurated Book Fair in main ground of the Campus wherein 25 leading publishers set up their stalls.

Deputy Chief Librarian LCWU Sania Awais briefed that this digital is equipped with one hundred computers. It has numerous facilities like collaborative room for group learning, cubes for senior researchers, printing rooms for all printing solutions and finishing room for assignments.

She added that a section has been allocated for outdoor study where students can study their own books and notes in an ideal environment. “Contents, services and environment are the basic elements of a fantastic library and we have made our best to achieve standard. Software has been installed to facilitate visually impaired persons. Wheel chairs will be available on demand for their access to the library.” She explained.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Uzma Qureshi told that LCWU was focusing on quality research and this digital library will support our mission. All data bases of Higher Education Commission (HEC) would be available in digital library and LCWU will arrange special workshops to train scholars how to use this data base.

Dr. Qureshi added that LCWU has established six PhD Research Resource Centers for 16 departments. Purpose of these well furnished and well equipped centers is to promote research culture in Varsity. Through these PhD Research Resource Centers as well as digital library the graduates and post graduates students will get sufficient place and peaceful environment to conduct their research. LCWU is prestigious university where the management is fully supportive for quality research. University has the privilege of Research Promotion Fund to be used for research projects, conferences, workshops, seminars, travel grant, printing of research journals, publication fee and incentive for research publications. She concluded.

Minister for higher education Punjab Syed Raza Ali Gillani appreciated the efforts of Vice Chancellor LCWU and her team to promote research.

The minister said higher educational institutions are supposed to generate knowledge. It is mandatory for universities and higher educational institutions to shift their focus from the transmission of dated knowledge to the dissemination of contemporary information, relevant to the needs of a changing world.
