Haris Sohail will replace Umar Akmal : PCB

Lahore : Pakistan Cricket Board Selection Committee has announced the replacement of Umar Akmal. The young cricketer Haris Sohail is the choice of the PCB for upcoming Champions Trophy being held in England.

The national selection committee headed by Inzamam ul Haq had called Umar Amin, Haris Sohail and Asif Zakir for fitness test today at National Cricket Academy to replace Umar Akmal who had earlier failed to pass the fitness test in the pre-camp for Champions Trophy in Birmingham, England. Umar Akmal has been told to return home to work on his fitness.

The NCA trainer conducted the test of all three players and based on the reports submitted by the trainer and upon Pakistan’s team management request Haris Sohail has been selected to replace Umar Akmal for the Champions Trophy to commence from June 1, 2017 in England and Wales.

Haris Sohail will fly to England to replace the unfit Umar Akmal in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Earlier, while talking to reporters earlier today, chief PCB selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said middle-order batsman Umar Akmal had failed in fitness tests ahead of the mega event and as a result, he had been withdrawn from Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad.

The PCB chief selector cleared out the team management conducts fitness tests prior to every series.

It has been disclosed that Akmal failed two fitness tests during ongoing training camp in England ahead of Champions Trophy, and has therefore been dropped from the team.

The 27-year-old Umar Akmal could not clear the test that was taken in March before the West Indies tour, and was also the only player to be dropped from the team owing to fitness.

It would be interesting to mention here that Pakistan will start their ICC Champions Trophy campaign against defending champions India on June 4 for in Edgbaston.
