Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal) : In a function arranged here by Agriculture department at TMA Hall, Assistant Commissioner Shabbir Cheema distributed 661 bags (weighing 50 kg each) of healthy and disease resistant wheat seed among 352 growers.
Speaking on the occasion Shabbir Cheema said that wheat crop is facing serious threat from fungal disease. He pointed out wheat rust is devastating disease that last Rabi season caused reduction in per acre yield.
He said under Punjab Government Kisan package, healthy and disease resistant variety of wheat seed was being given to growers for increasing wheat production. He said farmers from each village of the district had been selected through balloting for providing seed. He further said successful farmers would be bound to give undertaking that they would also provide this seed to other growers after harvesting their wheat crops next Rabi season so that disease free wheat could be cultivated in Punjab.
DDO Agriculture Sheikh Iqbal was also present in the function. At another event arranged by Agriculture Department the AC distributed seed among citizens for growing kitchen garden.
