164 traders arrested in Lahore due to overcharging

Bilal Yasin, DSP Shams DurraniLahore: Crackdown against profiteers, hoarders, adulterators and traders and shopkeepers involved in other violations has been accelerated in 36 districts of the province.

According to Ramadan Monitoring Report, a fine of Rs. 183500 was received in district Faisalabad while a minimum of Rs. 5000 was imposed in district Chakwal. As many as 202 raids were conducted at different places and a fine of Rs. 157000 was received, 72 FIRs were registered and 164 traders were arrested in Lahore. 1756 Price Control Magistrates checked 1898 markets of different cities and conducted raids at 8394 shops.

As many as 1473 traders and shopkeepers faced legal action due to overcharging, ten shopkeepers were found involved in hoarding, 36 shopkeepers and traders were involved in other violations.

Price Control Magistrates took legal action and got registered 170 FIRs, 229 traders and shopkeepers were arrested and a fine of 1635200 rupees was imposed. As many as 2001 shops were inspected for checking weights and measures.

Violation of law noted at 125 places, 76 traders and shopkeepers were arrested on short weighting. Inspectors of Labour Department have started legal action against 125 traders and shopkeepers.
