Pakistan Senate Election Monitors Delegation visits Azerbaijan

Pakistan Senate Election Monitors Delegation visits AzerbaijanLahore: The Pakistan Senate Election Monitors Delegation, led by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, called on President Ilham Aliyev at the President House here. President Aliyev warmly received the Pakistani Senators, saying that ‘Pakistan and Azerbaijan are strategic partners, we should support each in times of need, Azerbaijan supports Pakistan on Kashmir and Pakistan supports Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh’. President Aliyev also expressed concern on the rise of Islamophobia in parts of Europe and said that steps need to be taken to counter it.

President Aliyev recalled the recent visit of President Mamnoon Hussain to Azerbaijan and said the visit contributed to strengthening bilateral relations.
Senator Mushahid Hussain, introduced the ‘distinguished and diverse delegation of 6 Senators, representing the Pakistani political spectrum with 5 political parties participating, with 3 from the Government and 3 from the Opposition, who all fully support Azerbaijan’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, and that is why Pakistan has no diplomatic relations with Armenia’.

Terming Azerbaijan as a ‘brotherly country’, Senator Mushahid Hussain thanked President Aliyev and First Lady Mehrbaan for their generous support to humanitarian causes in Pakistan. He said the Pakistani people, parliament, political parties and Government look forward to welcome both the President and First Lady to Pakistan. He also thanked the President for this extraordinary gesture of receiving the delegation on a Sunday, with the meeting held in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

The meeting was attended by Senator Nuzhat Sadiq Sadiq (PML-N), Chairperson of Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Farhatullah Babar, chief spokesman of PPP, Senator Samina Abid, President of Women’s Wing of PTI, Senator Lt Gen (r) Salahuddin Tirmizi and Senator Mir Kabir Muhammad Shahi (National Party of Balochistan).
