Women need to know the laws for their protection:Farkhanda Waseem

Lahore: Provincial Ombudswoman Farkhanda Waseem Afzal has stressed the need for creating awareness in women regarding their rights and the laws for their protection.

She was addressing one day national conference arranged by Home Max Pakistan.

Narrating the details of the Harassment Act 2010, Farkhanda Waseem Afzal told that how women can protect their rights under this Act. She further told that there is an inquiry committee in every department where women present their complaints and if their complaints are not redressed, they can lodge complaints in Ombudswoman office.

She said that the decision is taken on merit by hearing view point of both parties and punishment is also awarded to the accused according to crime which included stoppage of annual increments and removal from service.

Speaker from four provinces also expressed their views in the seminar and stressed the need of organizing women. Labour Department Punjab, Aurat Foundation, USAID, labour leaders, secretaries of Labour Department of four provinces, women assembly members and a large number of women workers attended the seminar. At the end, question-answer session was also held. Farkhanda Waseem Afzal replied questions relating to her department satisfactorily.
