Lahore: Momina Cheema Foundation, Pakistan, organized a seminar highlighting the role of women in the legal profession by the title of “Women in Law: challenges and opportunities” at Defense Club, Lahore.
Mrs. Justice Ayesha Malik, judge of the Lahore High Court, and Moeen Hayat Cheema, Professor of law at the Australian National University, addressed the gathering.
Justice Ayesha Malik said that in Pakistan, women have introduced cultural changes in the profession of law. She further said that students should also opt this profession for better future. There is a dire need of competent women in the field of law, she added. Dr. Tariq Cheema also provided an overview of Momina Cheema Foundation`s scholarship program for women law students. Dr Tariq said that like developed countries, women in Pakistan can play a vital role in this profession. He appreciated the role of women in judiciary movement. He further said that new trends in our judicial system help to provide justice to poorest people at their doorstep. At the end, more than 30 students were awarded scholarships in the field of law.
A large number of women lawyers, law students, members of the civil society and donors of the foundation attended the event and appreciated the foundation`s performance.
