Young Doctors of Mayo Hospital postpone protest on Khawaja Salman assurity

Health Advisor to CMLahore: Advisor on Health Punjab, Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that steps on fast track have been initiated for the completion of under-construction surgical tower of Mayo Hospital and government will provide additional funds for the project during the current fiscal year.

He stated this during a meeting with the doctors of the hospital after inspection of the building of the tower at Mayo Hospital, here today. Director General Health Punjab Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Project Director Surgical Tower Prof. Sadaqat Ali, MS Dr. Amjad Shahzad, Dr. Salman Kazmi and other doctors were also present on the occasion.

Prof. Sadaqat Ali told that the surgical tower has been designed to meet the modern needs and the project has delayed due to changes in PC-1 and additions. However, efforts are being made for making outdoor and radiology ward functional by the end of the current financial year, he added. He informed that the building of the surgical tour has been completed while finishing and civil work are to be carried out. He further said that the tower is aimed at provision of latest medical facilities. He said that there is a heavy workload on Mayo Hospital and medical facilities are being provided to all the patients Health Advisor to CM ..visiting the hospital.

Kh. Salman Rafique said that government has got approved eleven thousand new posts from Health Department for the promotion of doctors and health sector reforms. He said that an attractive pay package has also been evolved for specialist doctors working at DHQ and THQ hospitals. He said that there were some technical reasons for the delay in surgical tour.

He said that government will also provide additional funds during current fiscal year for completing surgical tour. He said that a joint meeting of Health, C&W, Finance and P&D Departments is being held next week in which timeline will be settled for the completion of the surgical tour. He said it will also be decided in the meeting how many floors of the tour could be made functional by June 2015 while minimum time limit will also be fixed for completion of the pending work.

He said that all the issues have been resolved and now this project will be executed on fast track basis for provision of best medical facilities to the patients.

Meanwhile,Young Doctors of Mayo Hospital have postponed their protest on surgical tower roof top after a meeting with the adviser health Khawaja Salman Rafique,D.G Health Punjab & M.S Mayo Hospital Lahore.Spokesperson of YDA Mayo Dr. Zameer Mir has further added that it was agreed with the government that special funds would be allocated for the completion of the tower and final date of completion would be announced next week in the scheduled meeting of the steering committee of Mayo Hospital.
