Ch Pervaiz Elahi lashes government on flood in Punjab

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi visited worst flood hit areas of Gujrat today and distributed relief goods, tents, food items and utensils among the affected people.

Talking to media on this occasion, Ch Parvez Elahi said that today Pak Army and 1122 service established during our tenure were rescuing the people in the flood hit areas and providing relief to them whereas Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sharif Brothers were responsible for drowning Pakistan in particular Punjab, had Kalabagh Dam been there today then flood would have been controlled, people would have got cheaper electricity and common man as well as economy of Pakistan would have benefitted a great deal.

He said the good governance of the rulers had been exposed as they had failed in protecting life and property of the people they undertake aerial visits in helicopters surrounded by police and were afraid of facing the people, he added.

He said further that friend of Nawaz Sharif, Narendra Modi, was by nature inimical to Muslims, by releasing such massive water suddenly he has proved enmity towards Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif had sent him gift of Chaunsa mangoes and he (Indian PM) had reciprocated by gift of flood, he should have at least informed in advance in this regard for sake of his friendship with Nawaz Sharif, now Nawaz Sharif was thanking him but for what?

Earlier talking to the effected people in the relief camps while distributing relief goods among them, Ch Parvez Elahi said the rulers, afraid of anger of the masses, were stealthily touring the flood hit areas, because of their activities number of participants of the sit-in (dharna) and their enthusiasm was today much more than before. He said the people had lost animals, crops houses and everything else in the floods, “in this difficult hour we firmly and fully stand with you”, we had constructed embankments as safeguard against flood and old embankments were regularly repaired every year but Punjab Govt had not provided funds for this purpose for last seven years and dumped all funds in Jangla bus service.

Continuing Ch Parvez Elahi said that it was the responsibility of the rulers to solve the problems of the flood-hit people but their inefficiency and enmity of Shahbaz Sharif towards farmers had deprived them of everything in the flood and now they were visiting the flood hit areas wearing long boots and playing “topi drama” for the media. He said it was a matter of record of the past that we fully realize and understand the sorrow and pains of the farmers, the poor and the common man but they do not bother in this regard and that was why electricity had become costly during their tenure, dearness of essential and other articles had increased by 100 per cent, incidence of thefts and dacoities had also risen by 100 per cent, had they undertaken repairs of embankments constructed during our tenure then there would not have been so much devastation today.
