Lahore: The case of alleged change of newborn baby in Lahore General Hospital has reached its drop scene and according to DNA test report of forensic science laboratory Hina and Abid Ali are the real parents of the baby and the allegations against the hospital staff of changing the newborn have proved wrong and baseless.
Principal PGMI Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra and Medical Superintendent LGH Dr. Pervaiz Imtiaz informed that Hina Abid of Laliyani district Kasur was admitted in Labour Room of LGH on August 2, where a girl child was born to her but his family alleged that the hospital staff had changed the newborn and gave them a baby girl instead of baby boy. The Principal said that in view the sensitive nature of the case and to satisfy the affected family an inquiry committee headed by prominent gynecologist Prof. Dr. Farrukh Zaman was constituted who checked the record and also took statements of the staff. In accordance with the decision of the committee the DNA of the baby girl and her parents were taken to forensic laboratory in their presence. Dr. Anjum Habib Vohra said that inspite of the fact that this test is very costly no expenses were charged from affected family and they were also taken to the laboratory on government vehicle. He said that the laboratory report proved that Hina and Abid Ali are the real parents of the baby girl.
Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra said that in order to check such incidents in future, the hospital administration has installed eight more CCTV cameras in emergency raising the total of such cameras to 24, in future new born baby will be handed over to their parents before the cameras to remove any doubt. He further informed that it has been decided that nursing staff and paramedics of labour rooms will be replaced after every three months and implementation of this decision will be ensured.
