We alone can not eradicate polio:Khawaja Salman Rafique

Lahore: Khawaja Salman Rafique presided over an emergent meeting of Polio Monitoring Cell on Monday, which was attended by Director Health EPI Dr.Munir Ahmed, representative of World Health Organization Dr.Ubaid-ul-Islam and Dr. Aslam Chaudhary of Melinda Gates Foundation.

The meeting reviewed in detail the situation arising due to ban on travelling abroad by World Health Organization without polio vaccination certificate.

While lamenting the ban by World Health Organization on travelling due to polio cases, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the provincial government under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has strived hard to keep Punjab polio-free and no case of polio has been reported in the province during the current year so far. He said that unless all the four provinces take measures for elimination of this epidemic, the polio cannot be eradicated throughout the country.

The meeting especially reviewed the ongoing anti-polio campaign in ten districts of the province including Lahore and decided to strictly monitor the polio teams for making this campaign successful.
