Pervez Musharraf should face the charges: Liaqat Baloch

Liaqat BalochLahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that Pervez Musharraf should not make his mother’s illness an excuse for fleeing from the country but should face the charges against him.

In a statement here on Thursday, he said that the case under Article six of the constitution against the former military dictator was proceeding in the right direction and the decision of the Special Court and the Interior Ministry were in accordance with the law and the sentiments of the people.

Liaqat Baloch said that Pervez Musharraf was reaping what ever he had sown. He said, Musharraf’s unconstitutional step in 1999 had been supported by judiciary, the parliament as well as the post 9/11 situation, and he went on committing unlawful acts one after the other. However, he said that Musharraf was personally responsible for the November 07 move as the military or any civil or political personality had nothing to do with that.

Liaqat Baloch said that democracy had been restored in the country and the image of the armed forces had been salvaged.  There was an atmosphere of the supremacy of the law and the constitution as also the independence of the judiciary.

He said that at this stage, the institution of the armed forces should avoid patronage of Pervez Musharraf because in the past, Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan and   Gen. Ziaul Haq had done irreparable damage to the armed forces. Every lawful and constitutional decision should be accepted under all circumstances. The democratic, political forces and the law enforcement institutions should reject every pressure in order to put the country on the path of stability and progress.
