Lahore: Senior Indian Journalist Kuldip Nayyar said that it was not the job of journalists to support the establishment, but it was their responsibility to write and speak, to address the issues, while prominent film director Mahesh Bhatt said that it was the entertainment era,it was the work of film industry to provide recreational activities for the public not the media industry.
They were talking to media at Lahore Press Club programme “meet the press” .At the occasion, President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari announced honorary life membership of the club for the honorable guests .
Kuldip Nayyar asked the reporters that they should not file negative news on the demand of establishment that created hatred among the people of Pakistan and India .He lauded the role of Pakistani journalists and said that they face state terrorism and went to jail for the freedom of media and civil liberties . Replying to a question ,Kuldip Nayar said that Pakistan and India will never fight a war over water issue .He said , Mushahid Hussain was my friends and he had interviewed the Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr.Abdul Qadeer Khan but later I realized that I had been misused. He said that peace would increase confidence in the two countries.
On the occasion,Mahesh Bhatt said that people of both side could bring closer by softening the visa policies,promoting tourism and enhancing trade. He said that filmmakers of Pakistan and India could make low budget films by holding shootings in each other countries.
