PYF 2014: Inter Division Provincial Level Competitions Starts

Lahore: Punjab Sports Festival (PYF)’s Inter Division Provincial level competitions got underway at different venues of the metropolitan city.

In the Female Colleges’ Hockey Event, Rawalpindi Division got walkover against Gujranwala Division, Fiasalabad Division also got walk over against DG Khan Division while Multan Division outclassed Sargodha Division 4-0.

In PYF Inter Division General Public Basketball event, Sahiwal Division defeated Sargodha Division with the narrow margin of one point by 60-59. Sahiwal Division was taking 29-17 lead at the end of first half time. Gujranwala Division thrashed DG Khan Division 84-41 in another match.

Karate General Public event was held at Nishter Park Sports Complex completion in three categories. In 55kgs category, Nauman of Lahore Division was the victorious, Ali Akram from Multan Division stood second followed by M Mateen Amjad of Bahawalpur Division. The 65kgs category was won by Savail Fayyaz (Lahore Division) followed by Munir Gull (Sahiwal Division) and M Ramzan (Gujranwala Division). In the 75 kgs category, Tanveer Ahmad of Gujranwala was winner, Owais Taj of Lahore Division runner-up while Leuvison Ameen was third.

Three matches were decided in the Girls University Level Volleyball Competitions. Lahore Division beat Sahiwal Division 2-0. Multan Division downed Gujranwala Division 2-0 and Bahawalpur Division defeated DG Khan by 2-0. In the colleges’ level, Fiasalabad Division, Sahiwal Division and Lahore Division won their respective matches against Sargodha Division, Rawalpindi Division and Gujranwala Division.

Rawalpindi Division defeated Bahawalpur Division in the Baseball Event of the PYF by six runs. Rawalpndi Division’s batters scored eight runs while in reply Bahawalpur Division could score two runs. For Rawalpindi, Kamran and Tahir made two runs each while Haneef, Waqas and Hamza added one run each. For Bahawalpur Division, Rana Kamran and Mehther were the scorers.

In Athletics 800 Metres Race, Huma Afzal from Lahore Division, Farhat Batool from Sargodha Division and Nabeela Sharif from Multan Division won the first, second and third positions respectively. In 100 Metres Race, Sehrish Asghar from Lahore Division won first, Aeysha Kiran from Sargodha Division second and Iram Minhas from Faisalabad Division won the third position. In 400 Metres Race, Aneela Gulzar from Lahore Division was first, Nabeela Sharif from Multan Division was second and Farhat Batool from Sargodha Division was third. In 200 Metres Race, Saima Munir from Lahore Division got first position while Nabeela Sharif from Multan Division was second and Mussarat Shaheen from Sargodha Division was third. In 1500 Metres Race, Farhat Batool from Sargodha Division was successful candidate while Kiran Yaqoob from Lahore Division was runner-up and Rizwana Zafar from Multan earned the third position.

In Long Jump, Saima Shahzadi from Lahore Division earned top honour whiel Ayesha Kiran from Sargodha Division remained runner-up and Nabeela Sharif from Multan Division was third.

In Javelin Throw, Sadia Khalil from Lahore Division earned first position while Sonia Khalid from Gujranwala Division was second and Noreen Hafeez from Bahawalpur Division third. In shot-put events, Sadia from Lahore Division clinched top position, Qandeel of Gujranwala was runner-up and Umm-e-Zahra was third.
