Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has taken strong exception to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s decision to remove Zaka Ashraf from the office of the Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board and appoint Najam Sethi in his place.
Commenting on the Premier’s move, he said on Wednesday that in fact, Zaka Ashraf had been penalized for refusing to yield to the Big Three in the cricket world. The Prime Minister had now had appointed as PCB chairman, a man who was known as supporter of the Big Three, he added.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that in the past, the rulers had made politics a play thing but now sports were being politicized.
He said that Zaka Ashraf had been reinstated by the court whereas Mian Nawaz Sharif had even suspended the PCB constitution to remove Zaka Ashraf and literally enforced cricket emergency.
Najam Sethis’ appointment in such a capricious manner gave credibility to the common talk of “ 35 punctures” with reference to the general elections, he added.
The JI chief said that the Prime Minister’s office did not bestow upon him the authority to remove any one with a stroke of pen and appoint some one on his sweet will. Such arbitrary decisions would only ruin games and sports as sycophants would rule everywhere, he remarked. He counseled the Premier not to politicize sports.
