PAF won the National Ski Championship

Winning Trophy Chief Guest with PAF team Group Photo (3) Ski competitions for 22nd National Ski Championship & Shah Khan Ski Cup concluded at PAF Ski Resort, Naltar. Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, who is also the Patron-in-Chief SFP, was the Chief Guest at the occasion. Athletes, representing various Ski associations from all over the country, contested for this exhilarating sport. The PAF won the National Ski Championship while Shah Khan Ski Cup was lifted by Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts.

A total of 46 athletes representing 9 teams participated in National Ski Championship and Shah Khan Ski Cup. The participating teams are Sindh, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pak Army, PAF, GB Scouts, Civil Aviation, HEC and Alpine Club.

The Air Chief announced renaming of PAF Ski School, Naltar after Group Captain (Retd) Shah Khan. Group Captain (Retd) Shan Khan, who fought the liberation movement against Dogras, was the pioneer of skiing in Pakistan. Ski Federation of Pakistan started conducting Shah Khan Ski Cup in 2006 which is being held annually ever since. While addressing the closing ceremony the Air Chief said, “Its a matter of tremendous pride for every Pakistani that the green flag has been hoisted in two consecutive Winter Olympics.

Skiing is a sport of developed nations and we being a developing country rejoice this moment when a young skier from Naltar area is participating in the Winter Olympics this year. PAF not only assists to achieve quality education but also equips the players latest ski equipments and provides them training to enhance their ski skills.

The Air Chief further said, “PAF and Pak Army have joined hands for providing basic education to the people of Naltar valley. He reiterated his complete support for providing books, computers for the local school and directed to conduct an education camp for the students of this far flung area to provide quality education through trained tutors.

While talking to the local residents the Air Chief assured that PAF would continue playing its part in providing the employment opportunities at par with other downtrodden areas of the country.
