Italy shocked UAE ,Netherlands defeated Kenya

Namibia’s Nicolaas Scholtz claimed a maiden five-wicket haul to lead his side to victory over Canada by seven wickets on the ninth day of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q) on Saturday.

In the other three matches of the day, Italy shocked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 67 runs, the Netherlands defeated Kenya by 29 runs, and Nepal overcame Bermuda by 21 runs.

At Abu Dhabi Oval 1, Namibia recorded a seven wicket victory after Scholtz tore through Canada’s middle order, claiming five wickets in three overs for the loss of 13 runs.  Scholtz’s maiden five-wicket haul is only the second of the tournament, after Hong Kong’s Hasseb Amjad claimed five for 12 against Italy on the opening day of the tournament.

Ruvindu Gunasekera (25) and Jimmy Hansra (23 from 21 balls) were the key contributors with the bat for Canada, before the side lost a wicket on the final ball of the innings to finish on 117 all out from its 20 overs.

The Namibia run chase was anchored by Raymond van Schoor (58) and Craig Williams (37 not out), with Williams still at the crease when Namibia reached 120 in 19.3 overs with seven wickets in hand to record its third victory of the tournament.

In Group A, Italy recorded one of the biggest shocks to date when it defeated the host and third-ranked team, the UAE, by 67 runs at Abu Dhabi Oval 2.

In only its second win of the tournament, Italy’s Gayashan Munasinghe, Damian Crowley and Gareth Berg combined to strangle the UAE batting lineup, claiming seven wickets to help dismiss the host side for 91 as it chased 159 for victory.

Earlier, skipper and man of the match Crowley (59) combined with Peter Petricola (38) for a 67-run third-wicket partnership to lead Italy to a total of 158 for five from its allotted overs.
