Lahore: The Central Zone have increased patrolling to ensure safe journey of commuters and those participating in the Tableegi Ijtima in Raiwind, Lahore. A comprehensive strategy has been planned in a high level meeting under the supervision of DIG N-5 Central Mirza Shakil Ahmad.
Additional patrolling vehicles have added to cover the rush areas. Direction signs have be displayed at appropriate locations in coordination with City Traffic Police. A control room has been established at NH&MP Guidance Center Lahore which will coordinate with control room at Ijtima and NH&MP officers have been deployed at main control room at Riawind who will update regarding the release of traffic volume on dispersal day said DIG Mirza Shakil Ahmad.
NH&MP ambulances along with Regional Medical Officer and Pera-Medical staff have been asked to be alert 24 hours. Similarly, the recovery vehicles will also be standby to respond to any untoward situation.
The Motorway Police asked the commuters to cooperate with police to avert any accident and ensure unhindered journey. The department also made arrangements at all the entry points where officers will give briefing regarding road safety in particular to the drivers.
DIG N-5 Central Mirza Shakil Ahmad said handouts containing important guidelines shall also be distributed amongst the drivers and participants to make the journey safer. The violations of overloading of passengers, passengers on roof of buses, over speeding and lane discipline shall not be tolerated.
General commuters were advised to avoid travelling on national highways from 12 noon to 3pm on Sunday. During the said time, huge rush will prevail on national highways at the conclusion of the Ijtima from 8am to 4pm on the same day, the communiqué added.
