Freedom of Information Act would soon be implemented: CS Punjab

Lahore: Heads of all government departments should chalk out an effective action plan for the completion of new reforms agenda in order to provide prompt relief to the common man, besides ensuring proper monitoring system of all departmental matters. Freedom of Information Act would soon be implemented for ensuring the process of access to information for the people and good governance.

This was stated by Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Aslam, while presiding over a high-level meeting, which was attended by Secretary Housing & Public Health Engineering Mirza Sohail Aamir, Secretary Excise & Taxation Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Secretary Information & Culture Amjad Hussain, Secretary Implementation & Coordination Farhan Aziz Khawaja, Secretary Schools Education Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Dr. Umar Saif and senior officers of other departments.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Secretary said that implementation of administrative reforms in government institutions is aimed at solving the problems of the masses and ensuring expeditious redressal of their complaints, whereas administrative matters can further be improved through effective and transparent monitoring process. He said that the Freedom of Information Act would play an important role strengthening the system of good governance and accountability in the departments. He said, with the implementation of this Act the government departments would be answerable to the people, with regard to their performance, all the time.

Chief Secretary Punjab directed officers to also introduce comprehensive reforms in the procurement process of government institutions, by making it more transparent and foolproof, besides ensuring uniform implementation of this system in all departments. He informed that fundamental reforms process would be introduced in order to bring about effective betterment in the performance of Education, Health, Sanitation and other government institutions.
