IMI to extend cooperation in health and education sectors: Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that education, health, energy and economic development are priorities of the government. He asked international monetary institutions and donor agencies to extend cooperation in this regard.  He said that government is determined to steer the country out of energy crisis and a comprehensive strategy is being evolved for this purpose.

He was talking to Country Head of World Bank in Pakistan Rashid Bin Masood and the Country Head of Asian Development Bank in Pakistan Mr. Werner Liephach who called on him in Islamabad today. The Chief Minister said that speedy implementation of development projects and transparency would be ensured. He said that good governance and elimination of corruption would be ensured at all cost. The Chief Minister said that like eradication of dengue in the recent past, immediate steps have been taken for checking spread of measles in the province. He said that international monetary institutions and donor agencies are already extending cooperation in promotion of health, education, population control and social development in the province but still a vast scope exists. Shahbaz Sharif said that government of Pakistan is making comprehensive planning for resolving energy crisis. He said that all possible resources would be provided   for resolving energy crisis in Punjab. He said that there are opportunities of cooperation and investment by Asian Development Bank in energy sector in Punjab. The Chief Minister said that besides hydle and thermal, utilization of alternative sources including coal, windmill and biagass is also being considered for power generation. He said that resolution of energy crisis is need of the hour for rapid development of economy and vowed that all out steps would be taken for this purpose.

Talking to the Chief Minister,Country Head of World Bank in Pakistan Rashid Bin Masood said that international monetary institutions and donor agencies are interested in extending cooperation in education, health and social development sectors in Punjab. Country Head of Asian Development Bank in Pakistan Mr. Werner Liephach said that cooperation in health, education and energy sectors would be considered. He said that international monetary institutions are interested in extending cooperation in education, health and energy sectors and cooperation and investment in these sectors is being considered.
