Lahore: On the direction of DIG Dr Muhammed Shafiq National Highways & Motorway Police have launched a third campaign this year to check the increasing trend of motorcyclist multiple violations. The patrolling officers have so far acted against 16,565 motorcyclists in third campaign of the year 2013. The seven categories are riding without wearing safety helmet, underage riding (without driving permit), and reckless driving, taking U- turn carelessly, pillion riding, motorcycle without lights and one way violation. This was said by DIG Dr Muhammed Shafiq while presided over the high level meeting with police officer at zonal office Lahore. The SSP / Sector Commander Mirza Faran Baig was also present on the occasion.
DIG Dr Muhammed Shafiq directed the officers in to ensure effective enforcement against the violations of ‘driving without safety helmet. Mobile Education Unit of N-5 Central Zone has also been asked to brief maximum motorcyclist about road safety measure and usefulness of Safety Helmet. All the SSPs have been directed to personally monitor the campaign and send day to day progress in this regard. In order to make the campaign more effective and meaningful banners containing road safety slogans have been displayed on all the important places on national highways and special road safety stalls have been set up at all the toll plazas.
DIG N-5 Central Dr Muhammed Shafiq has also instructed the patrol officers to carry on briefing and enforcement of motorcyclists as a permanent feature of their duty as motorcyclists are the most careless among all types of road users and most vulnerable to any serious accident.
