Prisons would be transformed into reformation centers:Tariq Pervaiz

Lahore: Home Minister Punjab, Tariq Pervaiz has said that all possible steps should be taken for transforming prisons into reformation centers.

He was presiding over a meeting regarding reformation in prisons of the province, here today. Inspector General Prisons, Additional Secretary Prisons and the members of different NGOs were present on the occasion.

The Minister said that on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab, all possible steps will be taken for making prisons reformation centers. He further said that the civil society has important role in this regard and effective steps will be taken in the prisons in the light of their suggestions and proposals. He said reducing the numbers of the prisoners in the jails, should be reduced through construction of new jails and comprehensive steps should be taken regarding senior citizens and women prisoners as well as reducing the punishment of juvenile offenders.

During the meeting, members of the NGOs informed the Minister about their services and efforts. On this occasion, the Minister assured all the members of NGOs that Punjab government will implement its effective and practicable proposals and suggestions. At the end, the Minister directed the officers of the Ministry of Home to hold such meetings with the NGOs in future.
