Cabinet for unity to root out terrorism, extremism

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Thursday urged all the political and religious parties, and civil society to show unity in order to root out the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country.

Addressing a press conference after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Kaira said, “It is the responsibility of the political and religious parties, and civil society to stand united against the terrorists as the government and national institutions cannot fight against this mindset alone”.

He said that the Prime Minister, during the meeting, invited all the top political leaders to accompany him during his visit to enquire about the health of Malala at AFIC as this act would show solidarity against the extremist elements.

Strongly condemning the attack on Malala Yousufazi, the minister said that she was the daughter of the nation, who had raised her voice against illiteracy and extremism.

He said that he felt proud that Malala had expressed her desire to become a politician as she idealized Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as a political leader.

He said that the Cabinet held two sessions and the first one was dedicated to Malala Yousafzai. The Prime Minister and all the Cabinet members strongly condemned the attack on Malala, he added.

Kaira quoted the Prime Minister as saying that there was a need for unity among all the segments of the society to fight against this mindset.
He said that although media had played a positive role in the war on terror, but it needed to be more proactive to expose the elements behind the attack on Malala.
