Government to pay fair price to cotton cultivators:Liaqat Baloch

Lahore: Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Liaqat Baloch has demanded of the government to pay fair price to cotton cultivators for their crops. A cotton cultivators’ delegation from Pakpattan District, led by Chaudhary Ghulam Haider met Liaqat Baloch here at Mansoora on Saturday and briefed him about the terrible plight of the farmers due to the ill policies and negligence of the government towards Agriculture sector.

Liaqat Baloch deplored that from the inception of Pakistan every government had made step-mother treatment to the agriculture sector and exploited the farmers. He said due to the inefficiency of the rulers poor cultivators had always suffered while the industrialists, investors and landlords had gained plunging the agriculture sector into trouble. He lamented that the day by day souring price on diesel, electricity tariff, pesticides, chemical fertilizers and other basic in-puts for agricultural productions the farmers were witnessing a hard time and forced to live hand and mouth. “Despite the sky-rocketing prices on essential items, the government has fixed the crops prices lower than the original cost of the crops,” he regretted.

Supporting the demand of the cotton cultivators he demanded that government should fix the price of cotton five thousand rupees per manund. He assured the delegation that JI would support the farmers at all levels for their legal rights.
