Lahore: There is a dire need to improve contacts on regular basis between the police and the public in order to control crimes and to defeat terrorism and it is also the social responsibility of the people to extend full cooperation to the police so that crimes and terrorism could be eliminated from the Punjab province.
These views were expressed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman while talking to people during his open-court held at the Government College Deena in Jhelum today. The IGP also presided over a high-level meeting to review law and order in Rawalpindi Region. The meeting was held at the office of the District Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum and RPO Rawalpindi Capt (retd) Zubair Ahmed and the DPOs of Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum districts were also present on this occasion. The DPOs gave briefing to the IGP in-detail regarding the law and order situation in their respective areas during the meeting.
The provincial police chief said that he himself is the complainant in each case, where the poor are oppressed by the influential. The police officers were also directed to behave politely with the complainants and redress the genuine grievances of the deserving people at top priority.
The IGP said that under the pro-active policing strategy, the police are actively chasing the criminals and special police teams are put on alert to hunt down the criminals round-the-clock. Apart from arrests of scores of hardened criminals and proclaimed offenders, more than 200 proclaimed offenders have been eliminated who had been carrying heavy head-money. A notorious gang of hardened criminals involved in the kidnapping for ransom incidents has been eliminated in the central Punjab. The Chief Minister Punjab had announced Rs 12.5 millions reward for the police for doing this great achievement.
The IGP further appealed to the people to remain vigilant and carefully monitor the activities of unknown and suspicious elements in their respective areas and cooperate with the law enforcing agency like the people of western countries and civilised nations.
The IGP listened to a good number of complainants during the open-court and issued on-the-spot orders for the redressal of their grievances.
