Write letter or face the music, SC tells new PM

Islamabad:Rejecting AG’s reply in NRO case SC has ordered new PM to write letter to Swiss govt till July 25.

The apex court Thursday told the Attorney General to covey the orders to the prime minister that he must write letter to Swiss authorities without fail and further delay.

The court order further said that if the letter was not written, the Supreme Court could take legal action against the new prime minister too.

Supreme Court issued this order after hearing the arguments of the Attorney General and reading the written reply by the PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Thursday.According to the SC orders incumbent PM is also bound to write the said letter.Supreme Court write the detailed verdict that will be issued later.

Yesterday PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf drafted a reply after consultation with the law ministry.The apex court said the Attorney General’s arguments were unsatisfactory.The court also took notice of the statement of Qamar Zaman Kaira who yesterday said that constitution did not allow writing any such letter.

Earlier, in a similar situation former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani was dismissed from office by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Contempt of Court amended bill after which the situation will become even more complicated.

Constitutional experts and government circles are considering the implications of the Supreme Court’s latest order.
