Jails to be made Reforms Centre:Iqbal Channar

Lahore:Punjab Minister for Prisons, Malik Iqbal Channar has said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister, reform programme has been evolved in the jails of the province so that prisons could be turned into reform centers rather than torture cells.

This was stated by him while presiding over a departmental meeting, here today. IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir and other high ranking officers were also present on this occasion. The meeting was informed that provincial Prison Department has also launched programmes on self help basis under which educated prisoners imparted education to the illiterate prisoners whereas NGOs are also playing due role in this regard.

The meeting was further informed that provision of quality edibles has been ensured on daily basis which was being inspected by the committee of concerned jail. The Minister was informed that better healthcare facilities are also being provided to the prisoners.
