I m not happy with police performance:CM Punjab

Lahore:Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that peace and tranquility is essential for the promotion of economic activities and investment. He said that protection of life, property and honour of people is the responsibility of the state and without creating sense of protection among the people, any amount of development will be meaningless.

He said that government provided adequate resources to the police department, deputed honest and efficient police officers in the province but still the desired results have not be achieved. He said that police officers should play an active role for purging the society of crimes and maintenance of law and order.

He was addressing Regional and District Police Officers at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here today. The meeting that lasted four hours was attended by Senator Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Provincial Minister Rana Sanaulalh Khan, Secretaries of Home, Law and Prosecution Departments and Advocate General Punjab. IG Police Haji Habib ur Rehman informed the meeting about the measures taken for the maintenance of law and order and curbing crimes in the province.

The Chief Minister said that despite opposition, a hundred percent increase was made in salaries of police. He said that government is bearing an additional burden of eight billion rupees due to increase in the salaries of the police. While constituting a committee, the Chief Minister said that this committee will submit its report after considering setting up of crime control centers, transport, cameras, modern equipment and other requirements in the light of which measures will be taken. He said that police officers should create a sense of protection among the people and play an active role for the provision of justice to the people. He said that change should be brought in Thana culture and courteous attitude should be shown to those coming to police stations for justice.

He said that all the recruitments in police department have been made on merit and ten thousand more recruitments will also be made on merit. He said that illegal occupation of the lands of the people is a heinous crime and police should also take action against qabza mafia. He said that police can earn blessings of Almighty Allah by providing protection to life and property of the people.

He said that latest monitoring system and technology should be utilized for the elimination of crimes from the society. He said that oppressors and those playing with the honour of the people will have to be brought to the justice. He lauded the efforts of police force under the leadership of IG Police Haji Habib ur Rehman for the elimination of crimes from the province and said that people have been provided relief through busting of criminal gangs. He said that ban on display of weapons should be fully implemented and action be taken against violators without any discrimination.
