NADRA mistakenly declared me Muslim:Rana Asif

Punjab Finance Minister Rana Asif Mehmood has said that some elements are engaged in baseless propagenda against him only for the sake of political point scoring.

In a press statement, Rana Asif Mehmood said that his family has been serving the country for the last three generations. He said that his father Rana Taj Mehmood not only took an active part in Pakistan Movement but also contest the election against the Speaker United Punjab Assembly S.P Singa in 1946-47 from minority seat. He further said that his two brothers Col. Khaqan Mehmood and Maj. Rana Shamael Mehmood have rendered invaluable services to Pakistan Army. He said that Col. (R) Rana Khaqan Mehmood served as Director Security FC College and also served ISI continuously for eight years. He said that his brother Dr. Rizwan Mehmood has served in Health and Prisons departments while his brother Humayun Khalid Mehmood has been elected as councilor and member district council from minority seat since 1985. He said that he has been elected as Member Punjab Assembly from the minority seat of PML-N and there has been no complaint against him during last four years. He said that a baseless and malicious propaganda campaign has been initiated against him on the basis of the mistake of NADRA staff despite the fact that correction in the column of religion on his ID Card has been made by NADRA. He said that documents of his marriage are also available in the record of Presbyterian Church which can be verified.
Rana Asif Mehmood further said that some vested interests are pursuing a misleading propaganda campaign against him so that he could be prevented from presenting the provincial budget as finance minister from the platform of PML-N and the problems like loadshedding, price-hike and other issues could be set aside. He further said that he has the confidence of his party and all minorities and he will add a new chapter to national history by presenting budget in the provincial assembly as minority finance minister.
