Lahore : Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the arrest of Charsadda-based journalist Abid Jan because he had filed a news story criticising the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister’s large protocol caravan.
In a joint statement, PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi deemed it necessary that Abid should be released and the FIR against him must be withdrawn.
“It is a journalist’s duty to report what is going on in the country, especially at a time as difficult as the Covid-19 pandemic,” they said.
The arrest is clearly a case of media gagging and cannot be ignored, they added.
