Lahore : Deputy chief of the Jamaat e Islami, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, has said that the statement of the Economic Advisor Hafeez Sheikh that the next year budget would be an attempt to correct the country’s economy, was an indication that it would bring numerous indirect taxes further burdening the masses.
In a statement here, he said, the prices of the essential items were increasing by hours. He said it was childish to argue that new taxes would be levied the prices would go up but the common man would not be affected.
Dr Farid Piracha asked the Economic Advisor to inform the masses what steps the government had taken to protect the common man from the effect of the new taxes and price spiral.
He said that talking of the poor masses in the midst of the interest based economic system, the luxurious living of the ministers and advisors besides rampant corruption was sheer hypocrisy and rubbing salt on the wounds of the poor.
