Punjab Assembly’s Special Committee recommends cases for NAB against Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore : The case of Murree Water Supply Scheme (MWSS) unduly suspended by the former government will be referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) or Anti-Corruption Department of Punjab to fix responsibility and punish the offenders.

It was decided in a meeting of the Punjab Assembly’s Special Committee No. 2 chaired by the provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Local Government Raja Basharat on Tuesday.

The meeting was also attended by the provincial ministers Ch. Zaheer-ud-Din, Asif Nakai, MPA’s Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Khadija Farooqi and Zainab Umair and officers of the concerned departments. The house also decided to form a committee to prepare the reference on MWSS comprising of the representatives from the Law department, office of Advocate General Punjab and MPAs.

Earlier, the committee was informed that the undue stoppage of Murree Water Supply Scheme caused a huge increase in the cost i.e. from 2 billion to 9 billion rupees while the cost of Surgical Tower at Mayo Hospital increased to three fold.

Similarly a number of public interest based projects of Education department faced similar loss due to suspension made by the N-League government.

The Committee expressed grave concern on unjustified stoppage of development projects by N-League just due to the reason that they were initiated by the former government.

Raja Basharat said that the PTI government evidently opposed unrealistic policies of the predecessor government and released adequate funds for timely completion of their project the Orange Line. He resolved to introduce such a sustainable development policy in future that no government would be able to stop the public interest projects that verily increase the public hardships as well as the original cost of the project.
