CM Usman Buzdar notice artificial increase in the prices of essential items

Lahore : A meeting was held under the chair of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office here on Wednesday about overcoming the artificial increase in the prices of essential items. It was decided to take immediate measures to stabilize sugar prices.

The spokesman to CM Dr. Shehbaz Gill has said that the Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has made it clear that an increase in sugar prices and hoarding will not be tolerated and there is no shortage of sugar in Punjab. Sugar reserves are more than the demand, he added.

Punjab is the only province which has given subsidy to sugar mill owners and an attempt of an artificial increase in the price of sugar before Ramadan is deplorable. He said that sugar production was 3.1 million metric ton in Punjab this year while the demand is 2.7 million metric ton.

The spokesman said that the federal government has allowed sugar mill owners to export 1.1 million metric ton sugar and present sugar reserves are more than 2.91 million metric ton. Increase in price is cruelty with the people as ample reserves are available, he said.

The Chief Minister has directed to take strict steps to control sugar prices and the proposal is under consideration to transfer the subsidy given to the sugar mill owners to the people, the spokesman concluded.
