WCLA held the session of ‘Meet the Expert’ on the conservation process

Lahore : The Walled City of Lahore Authority held the session of ‘Meet the Expert’ on the conservation process of the Picture wall of Lahore fort in which the conservationists and architects briefed the participants on the conservation methodologies of picture wall.

Almost 200 students and faculty members of architecture, history, anthropology and social sciences faculties of various universities of Lahore participated in the session whereas the experts from Aga Khan Trust for Culture Service Pakistan and WCLA briefed them about the conservation process.

The participants were given a detailed lecture on the methodologies of conservation, fresco, tile mosaic and plaster and were informed how the 350 feet long and 50 feet high portion of the picture wall was conserved after documentation and several sessions with the international experts.

The session was held in the summer palace and the participants were given a tour of the picture wall.

Tania Qureshi the Deputy Director Marketing and Media said, “WCLA has launched this ‘Meet the Expert’ sessions to educate and inform the students of concerned field of study about the ongoing projects of WCLA and conservation practices and methods used for conservation. We had launched these sessions in 2018 and so far we are getting an excellent response from the students and faculty members”.

The Director General WCLA said, “It is important to involve the youth in heritage and culture of Lahore and I think education with recreation is an attraction for the students to get closer to their cultural heritage. We had taken up the initiative of conserving the western façade of the picture wall of Lahore fort and now it is completed. I must appreciate the hard work and efforts of Aga Khan Trust for Culture Service Pakistan who are our technical partners and have helped in conserving this masterpiece of World Heritage Site”.
