Punjab University establishes Baba Guru Nanak research chair

Lahore : Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has inaugurated Baba Guru Nanak research chair in order to do research on his teachings. In this regard, an inaugural ceremony was held at committee room of Vice Chancellor’s office here on Tuesday.

Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Chairperson Department of Punjabi Dr Nabeela Rehman, Editor In Chief Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture Journal Sardar Ajaib Singh Chattha, Dean Punjabi University Patiala Prof Dr Jasbeer Core, Dr Naveed Shahzad and Sikh teachers and writers from Canada and India were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof Niaz Ahmad said that Baba Guru Nanak promoted the message of tolerance through his actions and teachings. He said that Baba Guru Nanak had made great efforts for establishment of a peaceful society. He said that the purpose of setting up Baba Guru Nanak research chair was to promote the message of peace he had preached.

He said that it would help strengthen relations between the Muslims and Sikhs. Sardar Ajaib Singh thanked PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad for establishing Baba Guru Nanak research chair and said that collaborative efforts were much needed to resolve issues being faced by the society.

He said that we could establish peace by following the teachings of Baba Guru Nanak and Sufis. Later, the PU VC and delegates exchanged traditional souvenirs.
