The people expecting relief but the government added taxes : Sirajul Haq

Lahore : Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the people were expecting relief from the PTI government but it had added to their difficulties by levying 178 billion taxes in the mini budget.

Addressing the Azm e Nao convention of the JI Youth Punjab at Mansoora, he said that if the government withdrew the raise in the electricity tariff and gas prices, and instead imposed taxes on the feudal lords, vaderas and capitalists, the JI would not feel shy of appreciating that.

Sirajul Haq said it was everybody’s knowledge that the PTI had not come to power but had been brought into power. However, he said, the JI would like the PTI to implement its manifesto and do some good for the people. JI Punjab chief Mian Maqsood Ahmed and President, JI Youth, Zubair Gondal, also spoke on the occasion.

He said that the strength of the JI should not be gauged on the basis of its membership in the assemblies, It should be gauged by the work of its workers and leaders in the country. He said that only the JI could bring about the change desired by the masses.

Sirajul Haq said that the elections in the country were won on  the basis of wealth and the common man could never reach the assemblies in the prevailing system. The JI, he said, wanted a system wherein representation was given on the basis of talent and not wealth and political clout. \

He said that the silence of the Supreme Court and the NAB regarding the 436 other persons named in the Panama leaks showed that these people were extremely powerful that the government was not having the courage to lay hands on them. He said several persons in the government were such who should have been brought to accountability. He recalled that General Ziaul Haq and Gen. Pervez Musharraf too had raised the slogan of accountability but ultimately many of the corrupt were taken in their government. He said that the President Dr Arif Aliv too had not spoken a word about accountability in his address to the joint session of the parliament.
