Trend of using drugs among youths is alarming : CCPO Lahore

Lahore : CCPO Lahore has observed that increasing trend of using drugs among the youths is alarming and there is dire need to take immediate measures to eliminate this curse.

While addressing a conference titled “Drug Free Lahore” held at CCPO office on Tuesday, he said that the objective behind holding this conference was that all national institutions should have unanimous stance on the aforesaid issue and wage jehad against this curse as innocent children were becoming the victims of the deadly drugs.

He said that there is dire need for all institutions to play their due role in more effective way. He said that the time had come when they must nip the evil involved in pushing drugs in educational institutions in the bud.

He said that the Lahore police had established “Anti Narcotics Unit” under the supervision of SP Civil Lines which would conduct joint operations in collaboration with the representatives of other institutions. A WhatsApp Group would also be created in which all representatives would share their input.

SSP Admin Rana Ayaz Saleem also apprised the gathering of the efforts made by the Lahore police to beat the menace of drugs.

DIG Anti Narcotics Force Brig Khalid Mahmood Goraya, Chairman Higher Education, Special Judge Narcotics Force Court, Commandant Intelligence Wing Punjab Rangers Headquarters, DIG Security, DIG Operations and heads of educational institutions attended the conference.

DG Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Brig Khalid said that 83 percent drugs were produced in Afghanistan of which 40 percent drugs were being smuggled to Pakistan. He said that the ANF had erected border fence to stop the drugs’ smugglers and destroyed drugs weighing thousands of kilograms every year. He said that the holding of this conference was a welcoming step and they would extend full cooperation to the Lahore police with regard to eradicating drugs from the society.

Chairman Higher Education Dr Nizam ud Din and Additional Session Judge Lahore Mirza Shahid Baig also spoke on the occasion.
The guests accompanied by the CCPO Lahore also inspected the Ops Room.
