Lahore : Secretary Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority Dr. Muhammad Tahir visited different blood units of the hospitals in Lahore.
During the visit blood unit of Bajwa Hospital Allama Iqbal Town was found involved in malpractices. Blood banks were stored in very poor condition along with food items in the refrigerator. No blood grouping or screening facilities were available in the unit. Lab area was too dirty. There was no staff recruited in blood unit. Secretary Blood Transfusion Authority sealed the blood unit of Bajwa Hospital.
Dr. Muhammad Tahir informed that the blood unit of Hijaz Hospital Gulberg was found deficient in space and equipment. Moreover, shortage of staff was observed whereas facilities being used were also of substandard qualities.
The Secretary BTA communicated observations to the administration of the hospital. During the visit of Akhtar Saeed Hospital situation was not much different the space and staff for the blood unit was in deficient.
However, blood unit Bahria Town Hospital was found up to standard and well maintained.
