Murder accused shot dead in police custody

Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal) : The other day, one Babar Zaman was shot dead on Phalia courts premises.  Babar Zaman with other co accused were standing trial in a murder case; they were brought duly handcuffed by police escort to attend the court of Area Magistrate Phalia. After appearing in the court, the police took the accused out of the court and were going down the stairs. In the meantime the Fakhar Abbas with other accomplices opened fire at Babar Zaman, killing him at the spot.

The accused after firing attempted to flee the scene but two of them were arrested by police while other escaped. Police shifted dead body to THQ hospital for postmortem. Babar Zaman with other co accused in April had allegedly murdered Jamshed Tarar, Chairman UC Kala Shadian in precincts of Qadirabad police.

The complainant Ijaz Elahi while recording statement with police for FIR registration nominated 6 accused in the case, alleging they had murdered Babar at the instance of Azmat son of Muhammad Azam resident of Kala Shadian to take revenge of his brother’s murder. Phalia police has registered case against the accused and further investigation is in progress.
