Pakistan Railways reinstalled Goods Train GITA

Lahore : Pakistan Railways has reinstalled Goods Train GITA (Goods in Transit to Afghanistan) after 5 years Pakistan Railways has reinstalled   Goods Train GITA (Goods in Transit to Afghanistan) which used to provide capacity of transit trade to Afghanistan.

This train used to provide capability of freight to Afghan traders through Peshawar and was suspended in 2012 due to fewer resources.

Chairperson, Parveen Agha inaugurated this train from Karachi and this train will provide service of consignment to Afghan traders from Karachi to Peshawar. GITA’s reinstatement is part of government’s vision and programme, according to which freight sector of Pakistan Railways is becoming sturdier.

In comparison with 2012, freight sector of Pakistan Railways is generating 7 to 8 times more revenue. It has risen from 1.5 billion to 10.5 billion. On the other hand freight sector had only 7 locomotives and now it has exceeded number of 90. And after the import of GE locomotives the number will surpass 100.Pakistan Railways will generate extra revenue of 13 billion after movement of coal to Sahiwal Coal Power Plant. Thus it will play its role in finishing load shedding in the country.

For increasing freight sector Pakistan Railways has done Fuel Transport Agreement (FTA) with PSO. Likewise good relations are also being developed with business oriented companies like Cheerat Cement and Maple Leaf.

CEO Muhammad Javed Anwar and AGM Traffic Abdul Hamid Razi have called the reinstallation of train a good step. They further added that primarily one train per week will be started and later on the number of trains can be increased.

They stated that GITA will generate revenue of 2 to 3 million each week and this train will provide cheap, protective and trust worthy freight service to traders.
