Secretary Health Najam Shah visited Mayo Hospital

Lahore : Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah visited Mayo Hospital on Wednesday evening. He inquired after the patients of bypass surgery at Cardiac Surgery Unit and other patients at West Surgical Women Ward and Emergency and asked from them about medical facilities.

He also took round of Central Pathological Laboratory and inspected the record of patients coming to emergency department.

He directed to increase the facility of cold water as well as installation of canopies for the attendants of the patients outside emergency.

Secretary Health also inspected finishing surgical civil work at surgical tower and sought information about the schedule of procurement of medical equipments and their installation.

Project Director Prof. Abrar Ashraf told that LCs will be opened within ten days for the procurement of medical equipment and the concerned companies will be responsible for dispatching the equipments within 90 days and their installation within 50 days.

Secretary Health said that every day is precious therefore all the process should be completed at the earliest so that people could benefit from modern facilities of surgical tower.

Najam Ahmed Shah said that reforms and emergency cadre has been introduced first time in Pakistan in the Mayo Hospital as an experiment in emergency department.

Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Asad Aslam Khan informed that posts for staff of emergency department have been approved.

Secretary Health directed that approval of SNE of other vacancies of emergency cadre will be taken through summary. He said that emergency carder system is being started as a pilot project at Mayo Hospital and after its success; this system will be introduced in other teaching hospitals.

Taking notice of delay of installation of new Echocardiography and Angiography machines at cardiac unit, directed Professor of Cardiology Dr. Saqib Shafi to ask concerned firm for immediate installation of the machines otherwise action of blacklisting will be taken.

Najam Ahmed Shah also took notice of slow installation of new machinery at cardiac surgery unit as well as procurement and installation of diagnostic equipments directed that process should be expedited and the recruitment process should be started against those posts which have been approved after getting published an advertisement in newspapers.

During his visit to central laboratory, he also gave necessary directions for further improvement of the system.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Tahir Khalil, Prof. Saqib Shafi, Prof. Abrar Ashraf and senior officers of Health Department also accompanied him.
