Tahira Malik , the scientist found murdered in her house

Lahore : The retired Assistant Professor of Punjab University , Tahira Malik was found murdered in her house in the morning. She was living alone at official residence EA-51 situated at Professor’s Colony New Campus and was working at the same department on contract after her retirement while her daughter was living in Karachi.

The spokesman said that police were investigating into the case. Tahira Malik joined PU Centre for Applied Molecular Biology in 1984 as research scholar. She did her MS (equivalent to M Phil) from California University Riverside, USA in 1990. She later joined Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics in 2004 and retired on August 15, 2016 as Assistant Professor.

During her study in The University of California ,she worked on Evolution of RNA Viruses and learned the following Techniques, that is ,Isolation of RNA virus(TMV) from plant, Isolation of plasmid DNA (mini scale and large scale), In Vitro Transcription Assay and RNAse protection assay.

Moreover, she also took Molecular Biology Technique course in which learned different molecular biology techniques, Summary of all research of the year 1991 to 2000 in Pakistan; During these years she worked at the Centre of excellence in Molecular Biology, University of Punjab, Lahore,Pakistan.

Meanwhile ; Punjab University Academic Staff Association President Javed Sami, Secretary Iftikhar Ahmad Tarrar and others condemned PU Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics (MMG)’s Assistant Professor (R) and Scientist Mrs. Tahira Malik’s merciless murder by unknown culprits. In a condolence message, ASA strongly condemned the brutal act and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and extended complete solidarity with the bereaved family.
